Project Information
Identify the building & the engineer of record
?Need help?
Tip: Enter the project address with a ZIP — we'll use it on the next step to look up the design wind speed automatically. Project / company / engineer fields appear on the sealed report.
Wind Parameters
Pick the design basis, then find the wind speed for your location — our database, with jurisdiction overrides
?Need help?
Risk Category: II = standard buildings; III/IV = substantial-hazard / essential facilities. Exposure: B urban/suburban, C open terrain, D coastal. Speed Type: Nominal (ASD) or Ultimate (LRFD). Then the Velocity Finder below returns the ASCE 7-22 design speed for your selected Risk Category — including local overrides (Collier 170, Miami-Dade 175, FBC). The found value becomes your design V automatically; override it only if needed.

Velocity Finder — ZIP / Address → Design Wind Speed for your Risk Category
✓ Set as your design wind speed V · each Risk Category card shows its own speed
If the automated velocity for your Risk Category isn't accurate, override it in the Design Wind Speed field below. You can also open the official ASCE 7 Hazard Tool ↗ to look up the wind speed by address — it opens right inside this app. If the automated velocity is correct, no action needed.
Building Geometry
Building dimensions set the edge-strip and velocity pressure
?Need help?
Mean Roof Height (h) is the average of the eave and ridge heights (for a flat/low-slope roof, just the roof height above grade). It drives the velocity pressure qh = 0.00256·Kz·Kzt·Kd·Ke·V² and sets the exposure-coefficient Kz. Building width/length set the edge-strip dimension a = 10% of the least horizontal dimension or 0.4h (min 3 ft). Enclosure sets the internal pressure GCpi.
📍Location & state auto-detect from your project ZIP — set it on Project Info, then run the Velocity Finder on Wind Parameters.

Topographic Effects
Wind speed-up over hills, ridges & escarpments — ASCE 7-22 §26.8 (factor Kzt)
?Need help?
Pick the site topography. Flat terrain → no speed-up (Kzt = 1.0). For a 2D ridge, 3D axisymmetric hill, or escarpment, enter the feature height H, half-length Lh, and distance from the crest x — the animation shows the wind flow for the selected feature.

Components & Pressures
Add each window / door / shutter — design pressures auto-calculate and update live
?Need help?
Add a row per component. Each row's effective wind area and ± design pressures recompute instantly as you type. Zone 4 = interior wall, Zone 5 = corner (within the edge strip a). Drag ⠿ to reorder rows.
Zone Guide — Edge Strip (dimension a) i
Zone 5 — corners (within a of a building corner): highest suction
Zone 4 — wall field (away from corners): lower than corners

The edge-strip dimension a = the lesser of 10% of the least horizontal dimension or 0.4h, but not less than 4% of the least horizontal dimension or the code minimum: 3 ft (ASCE 7-22). Components within a of a corner are Zone 5; all other wall components are Zone 4. Corner components see higher design pressures — set each row's Zone with the ▲▼ arrows.
